• What are The Most Important Hepatitis Viruses ?

  There are several types of hepatitis viruses ( A,B,C,D,E,F…..)

  Chronic liver diseases in Egypt are caused mainly by hepatitis B,C

  More than 20% of Egyptians ( 14 % ) of them are due to hepatitis ( C ) virus

  An estimated 10 million individuals are infected with HCV and about ( 2- 8 % ) are due to chronic hepatitis (B ) virus infection

• How Serious are Those Types ?

  Hepatitis ( A) virus : is the least serious one as complete recovery occurs for most cases

  Hepatitis B and C virus : They are the most serious types as they lead to chronic liver cirrhosis with many complications up to liver failure

  They contribute to the main causes of cancer liver

• What are The Risk Factors for Transmission of Hepatitis B & C ?

  For B&C the virus can be transmitted by blood transfusion before 1992 patients receiving frequent blood transfusions , intravenous drug abuse , intranasal cocaine users , hemodialysis , body piercing and tattoos, unsafe surgery or dental treatment

  Also virus B can be transmitted sexually and form the diseased mother to her fetus during pregnancy

• What are The Available Hepatitis Vaccine ?

  Only vaccine for hepatitis A &B are available

  Antiviral treatment for virus B runs in three doses through out 6 months
